48 Hours in Havelock North

With its boutique charm, vibrant food scene, and natural beauty, Havelock North is the perfect place for a weekend escape. Whether you’re here for the wine, the walks, or the welcoming village atmosphere, two days in this Hawke’s Bay gem promise plenty to enjoy — and even more to come back for.

Here’s how to spend 48 unforgettable hours in Havelock North.

Day One: A Taste of the Village

Ease into your weekend with a relaxed breakfast in the Village. Grab a coffee and something fresh from Bellatino’s Food Lovers Market & Café, enjoy the buzz of Lot 2, or kick-start your morning with a smoothie from Pixie Bowls.

Once you’re fuelled up, it’s time to explore. The Village is known for its boutique shopping — from designer fashion and jewellery to homewares and gifts. Wander between Bonjour Boutique, Crisp Home + Wear, and Muse Art Gallery, taking your time to browse and discover local treasures.

When lunchtime rolls around, venture a few minutes out of the Village to Black Barn Bistro & Cellar Door or Craggy Range, two of Hawke’s Bay’s most iconic winery destinations. Enjoy a long, leisurely lunch overlooking the vines, sample estate wines, and take in the incredible views of Te Mata Peak and the Tukituki Valley.

As the afternoon winds down, head back to the Village for a relaxed drink at Giant Public House before settling in for dinner at Mary’s, where simple, seasonal food is done exceptionally well.

Stay the night at one of the area’s boutique accommodations — the luxury Havelock North Motor Lodge, elegant Porters Boutique Hotel, or Havelock North Luxury Stays — each offering the kind of comfort that makes you feel right at home.

Day Two: Nature, Flavour, and Creativity

Start your second day surrounded by nature with the Redwoods Walk at Te Mata Park. Stroll beneath towering trees, enjoy the shade and serenity, or continue to the summit for sweeping views of Hawke’s Bay. After your walk, refuel with coffee and brunch at Peak House, where panoramic views pair perfectly with great food.

Next, take a short drive to the Arataki Honey Visitor Centre — a family favourite offering honey tastings, interactive displays, and a fascinating look into the world of bees.

Continue on to the St Andrews Limes Cellar Door, where handcrafted citrus preserves, dressings, and cordials meet the creativity of Six Barrel Soda Co. (the boutique soda syrup company now on site). Try their natural sodas and syrups — a refreshingly unique taste of Hawke’s Bay to take home.

Return to the Village in the afternoon for a relaxed wander. Explore local art galleries, discover boutique fashion, or simply unwind with a drink in one of the sunny courtyard cafés.

As evening approaches, wrap up your weekend with dinner in the Village. Book a table at Pattie & Bricohe for gourmet burgers and modern bistro plates, enjoy authentic Italian at Alessandro’s, or opt for vibrant Latin-inspired dining at Mijita.
